NCR’s 2025 Award was presented to Marek Hromada, a student of ŠPMNDaG, Skalická cesta 1, Bratislava, for his project “Development and Design of Anthropomorphic Joints for Use in a Bionic Hand” in the category Robotics and Intelligent Machines. The award was given at the AMAVET 2025 Science and Technology Festival, held on 10–11 November 2025 in the Riding Hall of Bratislava Castle.

Marek Hromada’s project focuses on the development of contact-rolling anthropomorphic joints (AVK), which enable a more faithful imitation of human hand movements and offer improved resistance to mechanical wear. Their architecture utilizes rolling grooves with a cross-arranged ligament structure, which minimizes frictional load and enhances the mechanism’s durability.

Experimental laboratory testing confirmed that the designed AVK joint achieves higher resistance to force, pressure, and stress—the joint outperformed a standard rotary joint by up to 35% in push-through testing under identical load conditions. Finite Element Method analysis confirmed higher static strength and a more uniform distribution of stresses in the bearing-contact region. In addition to the mechanical subsystem, the project also features a finger-control system utilizing pulleys and servo actuators, which are driven by a microcontroller. The hand can be controlled via computer vision and a media pipeline, with a future transition to EMG-based sensor control planned.

The project demonstrates the practicality and advantages of contact-rolling joints in robotics, introducing a new design of a bionic hand that is affordable, easy to assemble, and suitable for both functional prosthetics and as a research platform for biomechatronics and AI-driven systems.

As the presenter of this award, NCR supports young talents in robotics who push the boundaries of autonomous and intelligent systems. By granting this award, NCR reaffirms its commitment to fostering scientific and technological education among youth and inspiring future leaders in robotics and automation.

NCR warmly congratulates Marek Hromada on his achievement and thanks the AMAVET Science and Technology Festival for creating an environment that enables students from across Slovakia to develop their scientific and engineering skills.
