Recipient of the NCR Award for the Best High School Project in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence for 2024, won 1st place in the most prestigious global high school project competition.
We are pleased to announce that Michal Lajčiak, a student at the Secondary Industrial School in Dubnica nad Váhom, and the recipient of the NCR Award for the Best High School Project in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence for 2024, won 1st place in the most prestigious global high school project competition in science and technology in the category of Robotics and Intelligent Machines at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2024, held in Los Angeles, California, USA. The competition featured 1,699 students from 67 countries worldwide with 1,357 scientific projects. The project also received a special award from King Abdulaziz and his foundation from Saudi Arabia. This nationally significant achievement was made possible with support from the National Center of Robotics and its member, Associate Professor Ján Vachálek, PhD., who played a significant role in its preparation.
Support from NCR began with the selection of a project topic that was highly relevant and competitive on a global level. During the project’s development, Michal received intensive support and guidance, including the integration of the latest theoretical knowledge with practical applications. The project, titled “Design of a Robotic Swarm Control System,” focused on flexible autonomous robotic manufacturing of the future, utilizing artificial intelligence, evolutionary optimization algorithms, microcomputer embedded platforms, machine vision, 3D printing, and swarm control. This modern multiplatform approach enabled Michal to develop a fully functional and innovative concept of the automated factory of the future.
Michal Lajčiak’s project was deemed exceptional for several reasons. Its uniqueness lies in the seamless integration of theoretical and practical aspects and the ability to combine advanced technologies into a coherent system. Another significant factor was Michal’s capability to professionally present and defend his project before an international jury, which greatly contributed to his success.
This achievement opens new opportunities for Michal Lajčiak’s future professional development and education. Participation and victory at the Regeneron ISEF provide him with significant opportunities for admission to prestigious universities worldwide and offer him the chance to continue his research and innovations in technical and scientific disciplines. Michal Lajčiak’s success also confirms the high level of technical education in Slovakia and the ability of our students to compete on a global scale. His victory at the international Regeneron ISEF competition is not only a personal triumph but also a significant contribution to the prestige of Slovak technical education. This success should serve as an inspiration for other students and teachers that thorough preparation and innovation are key to achieving outstanding results.
